Arr! Sea turtles mate!

My pirate name is:

Iron Roger Bonney

A pirate's life isn't easy; it takes a tough person. That's okay with you, though, since you a tough person. You can be a little bit unpredictable, but a pirate's life is far from full of certainties, so that fits in pretty well. Arr!

A disappointing WWDC Keynote... Except for safari for windows!

So I wasn't there, but don't you think it was pretty disappointing?

The information on Leopard Features they showed was so superficial, nothing about it was HUGE (or not already published). Also, I didn't like the iPhone only allowing third party web 2.0 apps, not too much of an improvement of what we were thinking already.

Sure, I loved the idea of Stacks on the dock for Leopard but it was a rather minor improvement.

I think it was a rather blah Keynote Address.

Now the only extremely good news on it were the news about Safari on Windows. I downloaded it as soon as it was available and installed it.

It has a lot of memory leaks, I got it to eat about 200 MB after some video watching on youtube.... but if you didn't notice.... All controls on it have the Aqua look and feel, they ported WebKit and CoreFoundation... Could this mean that after porting it.... they might think of publicly releasing it?

I mean, if apple ever releases Cocoa as a Multiplatform framework, it would be great. I mean, look, they have already ported it to Windows, haven't they? Why not release it? "Objective-C + Cocoa, the only coding platform you'd ever need".

I mean, what don't I like about Java? Basically everything. it's a pain in the arse, and it's bloody slow to make matters worse!!! .NET .... It's fast on Windows, but Mono is lacking in speed in other platforms, plus, it's not totally portable (because Mono hasn't implemented everything), also, there is no decent IDE for Mono on OS X (unless you take 5-10 hours to install MonoDevelop).

What do they have in common? They're both bytecode (or IL) based, making them either Interpreted or JITted, which can be a pain... What if I want a fully-native GUI-enabled option, Cocoa + Objective-C would be a very good option wouldn't it?.

By the way, if you don't believe me they ported it, what do these files mean in my Windows installation of Safari?

Hmmm I can only begin to imagine.... Multiplatform cocoa.... Yumm! :D

Quick update

I haven't really talked to R all that much lately, I just think he's a really nice straight guy and it hurts me talking to him and getting all excited everynight, so we're down to talking once every 3 days or so....

Anyway.

I got a new job so I'm kinda busy with that...... but there's a construction a couple of blocks away from my office and the noise was driving me crazy so today, at lunch hour I bought some noise cancelling headphones, and I love em.

Also, last night I saw a blog post by Alex saying someone hurt him more or less the same way he hurt me, so I'm all happy about it, I love Karma right now. I really hate Alex. I mean, I know saying what I just typed is mean, but how evil can someone be to dump someone and tell them to fuck off on the day of his birthday...? so yeah I'm happy someone hurt him the way he hurt me when he did that.

To be honest, reading that kind of gave me closure over the whole Alex thing, so YAY!

Currently Watching

Falling for the wrong ones....

I have, again, fell for someone who's (most likely) unavailable.

This guy at my university. Let us call him R.

Physical Appearance

R is a bit shorter than me (two or three inches, maybe?). He's just as pale-white as me, and has wavy strawberry blonde hair. He has full & pink lips, those that make you want to nibble them... >.<..... He has lovely hazel eyes... Yummy.... xD

Background

Well... He's a guy at my university. I don't know whether he's straight, gay or bi. He's a third semester student. Same major as me. I had seen him around a couple of times and I had helped him or chitchatted with him before and I thought "Damn he's cute", but nothing else.

Then he joined the Programming competition interest group at my university... Which I kind of lead and help organise... He isn't very good at it yet, but I see future in him. He sees me kind of like a mentor in some way.

The story

So yeah, how we became friends?.... Kind of easy... We were organising this remote programming competition, everyone had to compete from their house, so we needed to work through a VPN and configure stuff on their computers.

I emailed everyone saying that if they had any problems they should call or email me and I'd try to sort them out... So he did... And I said "okay, call me in 20 mins as I'm gonna take a shower and I'll help you then".... I remembered his name from a previous registration we had done, so when I saw the email coming from "RAC" (initials), I immediately knew who he was....

So I tried to help him but his router was misbehaving and in the end I just said "here, take my computer, you can login remotely and use it, it's already configured"... So he used my computer. After the competition I showed him how to solve a few of the non-trivial problems and yeah that was it... we kind of became friends instantly... That was almost a month ago...

The friendship

I don't know, maybe me and my friends are reading too much into this, but he does sometimes seem interested in me, you know? Sure. He does see me as some kind of mentor (and picks on me a lot calling me "my very OLD master", though he's just two years and a half younger LOL), but sometimes it seems like he's interested in something else.

He really spends lots of time talking to me (exclusively), which would be strange in a straight guy, he tries to call for my attention a lot, etc. Like, the other day, I was walking down to the AU from the W building, and he was walking up the opposite way, I was with Vanessa and on the phone and clearly not paying attention, when I saw him he was about to light a fire to make me some smoke signals (Okay... he was not, but he was almost jumping so I'd see him)... Normally, straight guys wouldn't try to get my attention so much, just so I would say hi.

From day one of our friendship I became interested, though not romantically; He's just a very interesting person to talk to. He's smart, knows what he wants in life, how and when he wants it... Unlike most guys I've dated here in Bogot? he has a future....

He isn't easily influenced, he knows what's wrong with our university's curriculum and is willing to learn the important stuff they left out in the latest revision (which affected him and not me :P) on his own (or with my help). He does seem to have a mind of his own and that is always appealing...

I don't know, even if it never becomes more than a friendship, I really enjoy my time with him :)

Being poor sucks

andr廥:// どうして私じゃないのって says (11:50):
Tommy
Can I rant for a bit?
Tommy says (11:50):
Of course you can
andr廥:// どうして私じゃないのって says (11:51):
It's a stupid one though
I'm green with envy... ><
andr廥:// どうして私じゃないのって says (11:57):
I hate being poor damn it.... Ever since the Macworld 06 announcement of the Intel transition, I've wanted a Mac... But I said I wanted it with a real processor (Core 2 Duo, not a Core Duo), and I would pretty much like it to be a laptop.. When they released the Macbook Core 2 Duo late 2006 I thought "That's my pick, the 2.00 GHz white one".... Sure, I've been trying to get money for it since the intel transition but given my current situation it's impossible for me to save ANY money (I pay my house's bills, so I pay for the living of my brother and my cousin... and every cent I earn goes there... bills... I can't ask my parents for money for the bills when I have my own money... I understand they are in a very difficult position so any breaks they can take from sending us money is great)... It's something I've wanted for over a year, and obsessed over... My friend called me a week ago on advice on buying a macbook for her sister... and today he calls me "hey come over for lunch.... and teach us how to configure the macbook"
I'm just pissed off because it's always the same
no matter what, I just <usually> don't get it
Tommy says (11:58):

I know the feeling only too well
andr廥:// どうして私じゃないのって says (11:58):
I fucking hate being poor
Tommy says (11:58):
I prefer the old mac architecture myself btw... It was far more stable
Hey... Theres a difference between poor and not affording something
andr廥:// どうして私じゃないのって says (11:59):
Oh believe me, I don't even know how we afford being able to pay our bills
wait, sometimes we don't
andr廥:// どうして私じゃないのって says (12:00):
I know it's ridiculous and materialistic, but I can't help it
I'm an Engineering Major, I'm doomed to be materialistic xD
Tommy says (12:01):
Aww
andr廥:// どうして私じゃないのって says (12:05):
Will, you mind if I post this convo in a blog? too lazy to rewrite
Tommy says (12:05):
I have no problems with that whatsoever
andr廥:// どうして私じゃないのって says (12:06):
Btw I hated Power PC, it was seriously lagging in processing power and hogging too much power (and generating too much heat.... Why do you think they never got a G5 in a laptop?)
Tommy says (12:06):
True
